In-Flight Conflict Resolution

Overview
This project was inspired by a simulation originally created by another talented designer. I recreated and reworked the concept to show my skills in instructional design and technical development. This version showcases my ability to create realistic, learner-centered experiences using tools like Articulate Storyline, while still preserving the original design's intent.

Background
The original project was designed to help new flight attendants build confidence and improve their conflict-resolution skills. I chose to mirror that context to ground the simulation in a practical, high-stakes environment that benefits from strong decision-making and empathetic communication.

My Adaptation & Approach
Using the ADDIE model, I built a custom branching scenario in Articulate Storyline that puts the learner in the middle of an in-flight conflict. The simulation provides learners with the opportunity to make choices, receive immediate feedback, and practice handling challenging situations in a low-risk, supportive environment.

Increasing Student Motivation Through Effective Communication

Overview
Developed for a fictitious online university, this eLearning course equips mentors to have challenging conversations and better engage adult learners.

Problem
Mentors often struggled to connect with students who were unresponsive or falling behind. These communication gaps led to lower motivation and increased withdrawal rates.

Solution
Using the ADDIE model and Understanding by Design (UbD), I created a course in Articulate Storyline that aligns learning goals with practical application. Designed with adult learning theory and a human-centered approach, the course features relatable stories and realistic challenges.

Mentors follow the journey of “Sarah,” an adult learner juggling work, school, and parenting. Interactive elements—such as flip cards, sliders, and drag-and-drop activities—keep learners engaged while reinforcing key strategies. The course culminates in a branching scenario where mentors apply what they’ve learned in a high-stakes conversation.

Impact
This simulation promotes behavior change by:
-
Equipping mentors with practical communication tools
-
Offering realistic scenarios for applied practice
-
Building confidence and empathy

Cybersecurity Awareness

Overview
Developed for NexTech Innovations, a fictitious global tech company, this eLearning course was part of a company-wide response to a major phishing-related ransomware attack.
Problem
An employee clicked on a phishing email, triggering a $500,000 ransomware breach and resulting in three days of downtime. Company leadership needed a training solution that would change behavior and strengthen frontline cybersecurity awareness.
Solution
Using the ADDIE model and Understanding by Design (UbD), I developed the course in Articulate Rise with a focus on what employees need to do, rather than just what they need to know.
The course adheres to adult learning principles, incorporating real-life examples and concise, practical lessons that are relevant to everyday life. Designed with a human-centered approach and Learning Experience Design (LxD), the experience includes short scenarios and interactive questions that mirror real workplace decisions. The final assessment is a branching activity with personalized feedback.
Impact
This course promotes behavior change by:
-
Helping employees recognize and avoid phishing attempts
-
Reinforcing behaviors through realistic practice and feedback
-
Promoting safe habits that protect the organization
